Making My
Portfolio
Blog 2
10 JAN 2022
As I’m uploading my portfolio, I realise an interest in digital marketing isn’t reflected in my portfolio. Realistically, I have much more graphic design work than marketing work, but not enough good graphic design work for it to be an adequate graphic design portfolio. Due to its being a mix of both marketing and graphic design work, I feel like my portfolio is in a grey area of sorts.
I have space to improve in showcasing my marketing ability by focusing on more marketing assignments. I decided to work on a promotional campaign for my other class, and I think the Maxi-cash collaboration* is also a good project to work on for it.
When designing my online portfolio, I wanted to portray myself as put-together but creative. I chose to use a mix of serif and sans serif fonts, adding in the occasional display script. The serif fonts added a touch of elegance while keeping the blog looking clean and modern, especially with the use of clean lines to separate sections and the white on black colour palette. I had to use the free version of Wix, so I got pretty creative with the free elements. Having finished, I was left with desire to change it up a bit more, like modifying how it scrolls, background transitions and changing the mouse.

I caught myself considering learning a bit of coding to add in all these elements I wanted but stopped myself from doing so. While it would be very helpful to learn how to code websites, I also know I have a tendency to get caught up in one aspect of my projects a bit too much, which always leaves me with too little time. I decided that it may be something I want to pursue sometime later on, but I had to focus on completing the task at hand to an adequate level before I started tweaking things to perfection.
*It's a little sneak peek for a future blog post! I'll be linking it when I post it :)
